Have you ever tried to make a fancy dessert or a super crafty project based on something you saw on Pinterest?
How'd it turn out?
If you're anything like most people I know, your result barely resembled the inspiration post.
Why? Well, there could be lots of reasons, right?
It was your first time making it and their 35th.
Maybe they had special training or tools that you didn't.
Perhaps they use some sort of special lighting or Photoshop hacks to enhance the image. The list could go on and on.
So what does any of that have to do with business?
It's a great illustration of the comparison trap we can fall into from time to time. You know those moments when we spiral into judging our messy middle with someone else's ten years in the making spotlight achievements.
We might not like to admit it, but it happens to all of us at some point and can leave us wondering, what the heck am I doing wrong?
My encouragement to you today is the next time you start to judge the progress of your business based on what you see other people accomplishing, stop. Take a deep breath. Then remind yourself there's no way you can barely compare your three dimensional business against your one dimensional perspective of someone else's.
Be kind to yourself.
Continue to make improvements, and when you judge, let it be based on how far you've come. Hold your head high and keep on going.
